A Florida native and a long-time advocate of wildlife preservation, Fred
Cheney's paintings and drawings reflect dramitic, realistic scenes of Florida's vulnerable and endangered wildlife,
both above and below the water. Scuba diving and underwater photography, as well as surfing, sailing and fishing, inspire
him to try to convey the wonder and beauty of the natural environment in his work..
Most of Fred's paintings are done with airbrush and acrylics, a tool
he has been using for over thirty years. He starts with a detailed pencil sketch or, sometimes a complete drawing using his
photography as reference, before applying layers of transparent color with the airbrush. Some of his paintings take hundreds
of hours to complete, but the thrill for him is to "...see how real and lifelike I can make them look..."
Many of Fred's paintings are sold as t-shirt designs by several
Florida companies. He also
displays original paintings and prints at regional art festivals as well as in galleries
around the state. He can also be reached at his home studio in Satellite Beach at (321) 773-8407, or by email <fcheney@cfl.rr.com>.
